The Sacred Lakes of Shiva & Bhairav
Gosaikunda, Sundarijal & Bhairav Kunda Spiritual Trek
Walk from the forest gate of Sundarijal into the high Himalaya — to Gosaikunda, the lake Shiva struck from the mountain with his trident, and onward to Bhairav Kunda, the dark still water where jhankris receive their calling.
Yatra Overview
“Struck by Shiva’s trident, the mountain gave its water — Gosaikunda still holds the coolness of that divine thirst.”
Step away from the ordinary and enter the peaceful world of the Himalayas on this sacred journey to Sundarijal, Gosaikunda and Bhairav Kunda — one specially designed pilgrimage combining spirituality, Himalayan nature, meditation, yoga, sacred lakes, traditional mountain villages and breathtaking landscapes.
Gosaikunda Lake at approximately 4,380 m in Langtang National Park is one of Nepal’s most revered pilgrimage destinations: according to Hindu tradition, Lord Shiva created it with his trident, and thousands of devotees climb to its shores each Janai Purnima. The journey continues to Bhairav Kunda at approximately 4,250 m in Sindhupalchok, the sacred high lake of Lord Bhairav, the fierce manifestation of Shiva, revered by Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims alike.
Beginning from the peaceful Sundarijal gateway, the trail leads gradually through lush forests, waterfalls and alpine ridges into the high Himalaya — an ideal setting for spiritual reflection, daily yoga and meditation, prayer at the sacred shores, and a return to Kathmandu with memories for a lifetime.
